Cambridge loose-head prop heading for trials in Heidelberg

Ben Ibrahim is seeking to make a mark with the Germany rugby team this week.

On the back of Cambridge Rugby Club’s 20-14 win over Loughborough Students, the 22-year-old loose-head prop headed to Heidelberg to trial with the national squad.

Ibrahim qualifies for Germany through his grandmother, who was German and born in Breslau.

He initially contacted them to express an interest and got a message earlier this year from former England and Saracens lock Mouritz Botha, who is now coach of Germany, to attend the trial.

“I contacted them a few years back and then got a text at the beginning of the summer from Mouritz Botha,” said Ibrahim.

“I’m nervous but very excited.

“We’ve got a program for the week, so it should be all good on that front.”

Ibrahim is also relishing the new National League One season at Cambridge, which has seen them start with a win and a draw.

“It’s definitely all going well and a really good environment at Cambridge at the moment,” he said. “It feels like we’ve gone up a few gears.”
