Ben Snaith earns England athletics call-up
Sprinter to race at Manchester International
Ben Snaith has earned a first individual call-up to the England athletics squad.
The 21-year-old sprinter has been named in the national team for the Manchester International on August 16.
Snaith, who has represented England in the 4x400m relay team previously, was selected for the meeting after finishing second in the 400m at the CAU Inter-County Championships in a personal best 46.21 seconds.
The Bottisham-based athlete was only beaten by Sudan’s Sadam Koumi, so qualified for the England team.
“I was the first Englishman and all the people that came first in their event got picked for the Manchester International,” said Snaith.
“All the 100m, 200m and 400m men are under-23 so it’s a really young squad. It shows there is a lot of young talent coming through. I should get a lot of competition there.
“This will be my first individual event for England.”
It is another step in a good season for Snaith, who won a gold medal with the Great Britain 4x400m relay team at the European Under-23 Championships in Poland last month.
England will face opposition from Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland & Ulster, a Great Britain and Northern Ireland under-20 as well as a combined British Athletics League/ UK Women’s League team.
