Boat Race 2021: Cambridge University men clinch victory over Oxford

Cambridge University made it a hat-trick of victories in the Men’s Boat Race by beating Oxford by just less than a length on the Great Ouse in Ely.

It was a fast start that did the damage for the Light Blues, as they got to more than a length up inside the first two minutes of the 166th renewal.

But they were never able to fully shake-off the Dark Blues.

It led to an enthralling race all the way to the finish line in Littleport, with Oxford fighting back at one point to reduce the deficit to a three-seat lead.

At the River Lark inter-junction, Oxford cox Jesse Oberst called “this is our water” and that was with 2km remaining.

They kept going but Cambridge looked comfortable in their rhythm and went on to win by just less than a length, and secure their third win in succession.
