Cambridge & Coleridge Athletic Club member Tom Bridger secures spot in Great Britain squad for European Under-23 Championships

Tom Bridger has secured himself a place in the Great Britain squad for the European Under-23 Championships later this month.

The Cambridge & Coleridge Athletic Club member rubber stamped his participation in Bergen, Norway, thanks to a victory during a 1,500m qualifier at the weekend.

Coach Mark Vile said: “Two years ago Tom earned his first GB vest at the Euro U23 Champs in the steeplechase.

“He was an outside chance of a medal but in the heats in the last lap he hit a barrier and feel badly causing an injury that would keep him out of the sport for quite a few weeks.

“His family, Tom and I agreed on that bad day that we would return to the Euro U23 Champs, but in the 1,500m. He won the trial and has booked his place on the plane the Bergen. Tom has improved so much over the last two years.”

A week after competing in Bergen, Bridger will also be in action at the World Student Games in Germany, where he will compete in the steeplechase.

Cambridge & Coleridge’s Alex Melloy and Deshawn Lascelle will also be in action at the same event.
