Lilywhites warm up for Women's Cambs Invitation Cup final against Cambridge United

Cambridge City warmed up for the Women’s Cambs Invitation Cup final against Cambridge United with a 2-1 win over Acle United.

In the final match of their Eastern Region Women’s Football League, Premier Division season, City needed a win to secure the runners-up spot in their inaugural season in the division, while opponents Acle United could leapfrog them with victory.

A goal at the end of the first half gave Acle the lead, but the Lilywhites hit back after the break.

As the game opened up, Bronte Rapley scored with a half volley from just inside the Acle half.

In added time, a goalmouth scramble led to Ellie Cullum tapping in to give City victory and seal second place, with Billericay pipping them to the title by one point.

City face United at Histon’s Glass World Stadium tomorrow (Thursday, May 10).
