Double success in strong showing

Cambridge 99 Rowing Club crews proved too hot to handle at the Norwich Head of the River race.

It was a good day for the club as they not only won pots, but also took home the trophies for fastest men’s and women’s crews.

The women’s first boat of Abbey Child, Chrysa Litina, Sara Bastiani, Josie Harries, Agnes Bolinska, Klaske van Marrum, Guinevere Woolstenhulme, Linda Kitching and cox Sebastian Hathaway completed the 5,000m course in 19min 21sec.

Cambridge 99 women’s second boat were not far behind, finishing second in 20min 26sec, more than two minutes clear of the third-placed crew.

It was a similar story for the men. Their crew of Karel Kabelik, Rob Sargent, Alex Shaw, Will Young, Rhidian Maltby, Friso van Gan, Nick Thorn, Nick Richardson and cox Sammi Tarling won in the fastest time of the day, 17min 50sec.

Despite producing a winning time in Division One, they then raced the 5,000m course in Division Two, concentrating on a time, and took a further 54 seconds off their previous mark.

The men’s second and third boats put down strong markers as they clocked 19.04 and 18.40 respectively,

Cambridge 99’s crews will be looking to maintain the form they have shown this winter when they send five boats to the Tideway in two weeks to compete in the Head of the River Race.
