Cambridge and Burwell & Exning suffer East Anglian Premier League defeats

Cambridge and Burwell & Exning suffered defeats in the Read Brothers Ltd East Anglian Premier League.

Cambridge faced Horsford at Clare College and, having lost the toss, were put in to bat.

Kieren Mackenzie was the top scorer with 36 as they struggled to build any significant partnerships.

Michael Turner (24), Henry Campbell (23) and Johnny Atkinson (22) chipped in to get Cambridge to 163 before being bowled out.

Callum Metcalf was their tormenter in chief with six for 50.

It seemed promising for Cambridge when they had Horsford at 15 for 3, but William Rogers (34) and Stephan Marillier (80) took the game away from the hosts, and Ryan Findlay’s 24 not out saw them home on 164 for 6.

Burwell & Exning were blown away by leaders Frinton-on-Sea.

Andrew Bramley’s 34 was the only resistance as Burwell were bowled out for 77.

Dulanjala Mendis finished with five for 19.

Frinton-on-Sea reached their target of 78 with the loss of only three wickets.

This weekend sees second-from-bottom Cambridge, who are nine points adrift of third-from-bottom Saffron Walden, make the trip to second-placed Swardeston.

Burwell & Exning, who are fifth, are also on their travels, away to Sudbury, who are third.
