Cambridge City end season with victory over West Herts
Brennan Alexander Parker and Euan Gilmour scored two goals apiece as Cambridge City signed off their Men's Hockey League, Conference East campaign with a 5-4 win over West Herts.
It has been a difficult second half to the season for City as, having been joint top at Christmas, the win over bottom side West Herts was their first of the new year.
Alexander Parker’s second goal proved crucial, and added to Gilmour’s two and one from captain Warren D’Souza.
Cambridge South completed their East Men’s League, Division 2S season with a 4-0 defeat at Wapping IV, a result that saw their opponents stave off relegation.
They had a 1-0 lead at half time and, despite the efforts of Paresh Parsot and man-of-the-match Tom Kemsley, Wapping got three more after half time. South finished sixth in the table.
Dom Nelson’s goal saw Cambridge South III head into the summer on a high with a 1-1 draw against City of Peterborough VI in 4NW.
Peterborough took the lead, but with time running out, Nelson’s cleanly-struck penalty corner, his 13th goal of the season, earned South a point and sixth place, the highest finish in the team’s history.
In the Investec Women’s League, Conference East, Rebecca Daniel scored a consolation goal as Cambridge City lost 6-1 at second-placed Wimbledon.
Cambridge South IV rounded off their East Women’s League, Division 5NW (S) season in style with a 4-1 win over Ely City III.
Emily Stevenson got the ball rolling, finishing some good work by Elaine Patterson.
Ely equalised but South went back in front when Alicia Hainsworth-Adams squeezed in a shot from a narrow angle.
After the break, Charlotte Wilson’s driving run set up Stevenson for her second.
Catriona West got South’s fourth from the top of the circle, and she shared player-of-the-match honours with Liz Dunsby and Steph Wilson as the team ended their debut season in eighth.
