Cambridge City Ladies win the Cambs FA Women's Invitation Cup with victory over Histon Ladies
Karly Tolentino and Shannon Shaw grabbed two goals apiece as Cambridge City Ladies won the Cambridgeshire FA S-Tech Women's Invitation Cup with a 6-0 win over Histon Ladies.
Two tiers separated the sides, with City in the FA Women's National League, Division One South East and Histon in the Eastern Region Women's Football League, Division One North.
The gulf ultimately told at the Abbey Stadium in front of a crowd of around 300, but it was only in the closing stages that the Lilywhites pulled clear, with the Stutes having given a good account of themselves.
It was the attacking flair of City that stood out, with Tolentino leading the line and the danger coming from the flanks with wingers Charlotte Gillies and Freya Standing using the full width of the pitch.
Histon were under constant bombardment but were coping well with some stout defending, and Aime Flack particularly prominent in leading the line.
Karly Tolentino cut back inside to crash a shot against the bar for City after three minutes, and in the 15th minute, Laura Mills' side-foot shot was stopped by Histon keeper Eleanor Morgan.
The Stutes then broke and the impressive Poppy Kelly was unlucky with a shot at the front post that went narrowly wide.
Georgina Huse produced a great recovery tackle to thwart Gillies in the 17th minute, but the deadlock was broken four minutes later from the penalty sport.
Tessa Shaw was adjudged to have fouled Tolentino in the area, and the City striker stepped forward to fire the spot kick into the bottom right corner of the keeper's net.
Morgan was alert to push over a fierce drive from Sofia Castiglione but within a minute, Gillies' ball back in fell to Tolentino, who finished among a mass of bodies for City's second.
The final chance of the half went to Histon, with Alison Wright hitting a 25-yard effort that forced City keeper Dominika Szary to dive at full stretch down to her right to save.
Histon grew as an attacking force after the break, with Kelly's influence growing.
But City were the first to strike as a defence-splitting pass through the midfield set Gillies clear to finish at the front post.
It was 4-0 after 70 minutes as the quick feet and creativity of Tolentino saw her open the defence before rolling the ball across goal for Shaw to tap home.
There was a second for Shaw after 81 minutes, seizing on a defensive mix-up to finish.
And it was 6-0 when Laura Mills was put through to finish off a minute later.
