Cambridge City were unable to end their season by producing an upset as they were beaten 5-1 by Haringey Borough in the East Region Women’s Football League Cup final.

The Division One side, who have been promoted this season, went into the game against the Premier League champions full of confidence, but it was not to be their day.

Hesitation in defence saw Haringey score two goals in the opening 10 minutes, and meant City were up against it from early on.

Haringey soon added a third, and it remained 3-0 at half time.

But the Lilywhites came out strong after the break, and midway through the second half, Grace Stanley pounced to score from close range.

City pushed forward in search of goals in the closing stages, but were undone on the counter attack as Haringey got their fourth, and they added a fifth through a late penalty.

But City have enjoyed a successful season, winning the league for promotion to the Premier Division and reaching two cup finals.
