Cambridge City seeking Christmas bounce back

By CambridgeIndependent Reporter

Lilywhites suffer defeat to Aylesbury

Cambridge City will be eager to make up lost ground over the Christmas period after a surprise reversal last Saturday.

They had been in free-scoring form in their previous two matches in Evo-Stik League, South East Division, beating Aylesbury United 6-1 and Uxbridge 5-1.

But that came to an end at home to Aylesbury, as they lost 1-0 thanks to Brian Haule’s 29th-minute goal.

It was a frustrating afternoon for the Lilywhites as although they were fortunate to only be a goal down at half time, they were guilty of missing some good chances after the break.

City will be bidding to bounce back away to Ashford Town (Middlesex) this Saturday (December 23).

They return to Westwood Road on Boxing Day when they face Bedford Town, kick off 1pm.

And are then away to Kempston Rovers on New Year’s Day.

Robbie Nightingale’s team are currently in the play-offs in fifth place in the table with 37 points.

They are four points adrift of joint-leaders AFC Rushden & Diamonds and AFC Dunstable, although Rushden have two games in hand of City.
