Cambridge City suffer FA Cup exit to East Thurrock United
Cambridge City were knocked out of the FA Cup by a 3-1 defeat to East Thurrock United in the first qualifying round.
The hosts made a good start, with Tom Hitchcock hitting the bar inside two minutes, and they took the lead after nine minutes through Connor Barnes’ header which bounced in off the underside of the bar.
But the Isthmian League Premier Division side, who are a tier above City in the pyramid, drew level through Alex Hernandez’s penalty in the 18th minute. Mikey Davis was played through by Barnes but hit the post as the score remained 1-1 at half time.
A quickfire double inside four minutes just after the break did the damage for East Thurrock with Johnny Ashman and Hernandez scoring to make it 3-1.
It meant that East Thurrock progressed, while City are back in action tonight (Wednesday) at home to Wisbech Town.
In the Northern Premier League, Midlands Division, Histon suffered a 4-0 defeat to Bedworth United on Tuesday night.
They trailed 2-0 at half time, but then had Bubba Camara shown a red card after the break, when they conceded two more goals.
