Cambridge & Coleridge Athletic Club enjoyed ‘greatest day in their history’ at English Cross Country Relays in Mansfield

Members of Cambridge & Coleridge Athletic Club have been celebrating the ‘greatest day in their history’.

That statement was made on the club’s website after two of its teams were crowned national champions for the first time at the English Cross Country Relays in Mansfield on Sunday.

One of those victories came in the senior men’s event, where Tom Keen, Jonathan Escalante-Phillips and Jack Gray put the Cambridge club at the front of the field – a position which Callum Elson held on to as the team clocked a finishing time of one hour, two mintues and five seconds, two seconds clear of second-placed Aldershot Farnham & District.

The other squad to take the national title was the junior girls, who got the better of runners-up Cheltenham by a margin of 13 seconds.

Elsewhere, the under-13 boys collected silver medals while the senior women’s team finished in fifth position out of 60 competing squads.
