Cambridge Dive Team make impression at Swim England East Region Club Championships

Rufus Bord clinched two bronze medals at the Swim England East Region (Diving) Club Championships.

It was a successful event for the Cambridge Dive Team, as a nine-strong squad headed to Southend for the first in-person competition in a year and a half.

On day one, Bord took bronze in the boys’ 3m springboard event as all four of Cambridge’s divers finished in the top 10. Ben Matthams was fifth, Charlie Tibbatts was seventh and Dominic Williams was eighth.

In the women’s 3m springboard, Daisy Halls was ninth in a strong competition.

There were three top-10 finishes for Cambridge divers in the girls’ 1m springboard, with Zia Gordon seventh, Amelia Aldridge eighth and Tobi Fayomi 10th.

In the platform competition, Bord claimed his second bronze medal, while Max Burnell was fourth, Matthams was fifth and Tibbatts was sixth, while Gordon was seventh in the girls’ event and Alridge
was ninth.

On day two, Halls earned a top-10 spot in the women’s 1m by taking ninth place.

In the girls’ 3m springboard, Gordon and Aldridge secured more top-10 spots, with eighth and sixth respectively, while Fayomi was 15th.

Burnell was fifth in the 1m springboard, with Bord, Tibbatts and Williams also in the top 10.

Cambridge were third in the overall team trophy standings, and head coach Alice Clarke said: “It was fantastic to see the divers taking part in competition and placing so well in tough events.

“I’m glad to see competitions being run again – it’s a real boost for the sport and for the divers.

“Well done to all divers for what was a very busy weekend of competitions.”
