Cambridge suffer RFU Championship defeat at home to London Scottish
Cambridge kickstarted a sequence of back-to-back home fixtures on Saturday with a 48-26 defeat to London Scottish.
Interim head coach Anthony Allen and his players had earmarked the matches against Scottish and this week’s visitors Caldy as good opportunities to put some daylight between themselves and the bottom of the table.
However, all they had to show for their efforts at Ellgia Fields was a try bonus point.
“It’s disappointing clearly but the last try right at the end shows if we do what we talked about in training, you get the results and the outcome you want,” said temporary boss Allen.
“We need to keep applying ourselves and working hard. Each time we come to a Saturday we test our knowledge and our learning and what we’ve been training.
“We’ve got another tough week to come and we’re going to train hard.
“Ultimately we’ve got to be better in the smaller areas of the game.”
Archie Vanes, Matt Hema and Ben Brownlie (2) all dotted down for second-from-bottom Cambridge, who go into their clash with basement side Caldy just two points better off than their visitors after they recorded a 27-22 victory over Nottingham last time out.
Cambridge won the reverse fixture 26-21.
