Promotion-winning campaign gets better in East Women's League

Kim Cooil and Sophie McComish smashed hat-tricks as Cambridge South wrapped up the East Women’s League, Division 3NW title.

They earned their second 13-0 win in as many weeks, this time beating Wisbech Town III to confirm their status as champions, having already clinched promotion.

Amalia Thomas, Izzy MacDonald-Parry and player-of-the-match Lou Cantwell bagged braces and Alison Small got one to take their goals total over 100 for a second season running.

Cambridge Nomads suffered a double defeat in 2NW.

They lost 4-2 to Royston on Saturday, with Kate Westgate and Annie Mather scoring and newcomer Grace Zdesenko earning player of the match.

And on Sunday, Westgate and Mather were on target again in a 3-2 defeat to Wisbech Town II.

Cambridge South II found Royston II’s young defence too strong as the hard-working and structured performances led to a 0-0 draw in 4NW (S).

A number of last-minute illnesses and an adjusted formation saw Cambridge South III lose 7-0 to league leaders Bury, although they were still in the match at half time, trailing just 1-0.

Nomads II remain on course for promotion in 4NW (S) thanks to a 4-1 win over St Neots III.
