Early try fails to provide spark

Cambridge suffered defeat on the road in National League One, going down 35-18 at pace-setters Darlington Mowden Park.

Ross Stewart’s side had taken the lead through a second-minute try from Ean Griffiths.

Darlington responded with a converted effort before Jack Green kicked a penalty for Cambridge.

The hosts got another two tries before Green landed another kick, but Darlington then pulled clear.

And Mike Ayrton’s late try was only a consolation for Cambridge.
