Defeat on the road

Cambridge were unable to make the most of their chances as they were beaten 35-12 at Ampthill in National League One.

Despite dominating possession and territory for long spells, they could not make it count as Ampthill ran in five tries.

Sam Baker touched down for the hosts in the first minute, with Steffan Jones landing the first of five conversions.

James Ayrton replied for Cambridge, and Jack Green’s conversion made it 7-7. But tries from Maama Molitika, Aleki Lutui and Peter Weightman saw Ampthill surge clear.

Oli Petrides touched down for Cambridge, but Baker got his second and Ampthill’s final try to complete the scoring.

Cambridge are at home to Plymouth Albion this Saturday.
