Cambridge United head coach Mark Bonner hopeful new signings will start to arrive next week
While new additions are ‘unlikely’ to arrive in time to face Bristol Rovers at the weekend, Cambridge United head coach Mark Bonner has revealed that incomings may start to sign on the dotted line next week.
With an injury list that is into double figures, Bonner has made no secret of the fact that United are looking to be active during this month’s transfer window.
The process of completing a deal can often be long-winded affair as selling clubs seek to replace their outgoing players, yet Bonner is hopeful that ‘one or two’ recruits could be on-board by the time that Morecambe visit the Abbey Stadium on Saturday, January 14.
“It’s really unlikely ahead of the weekend. If we add anything before the weekend it will be unlikely they’ll be able to play (against Bristol Rovers),” said Bonner.
“But certainly early next week we’ll be hoping to add to the squad. We’re getting close with some but the reality of the window is that very few (clubs) have gone early. Some have with big money, but normally in order to get (players) in you need the other clubs to have filled the holes.
“We’re working really hard on that and we hope to have something to announce really quickly, but at the same time it’s probably not going to be anything that’s going to influence the squad this weekend.
“Hopefully next week we’ve got one or two to announce and that will kickstart our work for the window.”
