Cambridge United to face Leicester City and Ipswich Town in pre-season

Former Premier League champions Leicester City will pose a pre-season challenge to Cambridge United at the Abbey Stadium.

The U’s have confirmed their schedule for this summer, and the headline match is a home clash against Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes, the 2015/16 Premier League champions, on Tuesday, July 23 at 7.30pm.

Another headline fixture for the U’s sees the visit of Ipswich Town, who were relegated to Sky Bet League One last season, to the Abbey on Saturday, July 27, kick off 1pm.

Colin Calderwood’s squad report back for pre-season training in the week commencing June 24, with their preparations to include a pre-season training camp at Largs, the Scotland National Training Centre, from July 15 to 20.

There are planned fixtures against Fulham, on July 6, and Nottingham Forest under-23s, on July 12, but these will be behind-closed-doors fixtures at the Championship clubs’ training grounds.

Cambridge United XI teams will feature in local fixtures at St Neots (July 20), Histon (July 23) and Newmarket Town (July 26).

There is also the potential for two fixtures for the U’s first team during their pre-season tour, but these will be confirmed in due course.
