Cambridge United loanee Alex Jones has been ruled out of the clash with Swindon Town.

Alex Jones has been ruled out of Cambridge United’s match with Swindon Town at the Abbey Stadium on Good Friday (kick off 3pm).

The on-loan striker was forced off with a hamstring injury after half an hour of the 3-0 defeat to Newport County last Saturday.

George Maris (ankle) and Liam O’Neil (hip) are likely to be ruled out for the rest of the season.

But Jabo Ibehre has recovered from a virus.

Paul Lewis is also in contention for a place in the squad, although is short of match fitness.

Cambridge United head coach Colin Calderwood said: “We have to be mindful of throwing him in so early that he has a recurrence of what he had as that would take him out of the last three matches.

“We will start with a mindset that we hopefully don’t have to use him, but that he will hopefully be there (at Forest Green) on Monday.

“The rest of the lads are there and we will have to use the numbers through the weekend.”

In a break from the norm, the U’s held a training session at the Abbey this week,.

Calderwood said: “Just being able to have the better training area, and being in the main stadium we had a really good session on Tuesday and there was a bit of spirit, spite and competition in the training.

“It was allowed because the surface allowed it - and we really got to be nice and sharp with them before the two games.”
