Cambridge United Women to make new home at St Neots Town Football Club
Cambridge United Women have announced that they will be playing their home games at St Neots Town’s Premier Plus Stadium next season.
The U’s first team, who are in the FA Women’s National League, Division One, currently play their home games at Mildenhall Town’s Recreation Way.
The development team have been based at Coton this season, but both sides will head to the GESS 3G Arena for the 2019/2020 season.
“All of us at Cambridge United Women’s FC are absolutely delighted with this new partnership with St Neots Town FC,” said a club statement.
“This opportunity will not only provide us with a central hub for both squads, but also gives us access to a football stadium with some of the best facilities in the county.
“Both St Neots Town FC and ourselves strongly believe this partnership will serve to form strong links with their already fantastic girls set-up, providing a clear pathway into the women’s team.
“This partnership can only bring good things in terms of development, inclusiveness and growth of the women’s game. We look forward to the exciting new season ahead.”
St Neots released their own statement, adding: “Having explored a number of potential avenues to bring girls and women’s football to the home of St Neots Town Football Club, this partnership constitutes a fantastic opportunity for both parties and undoubtedly opens up a clear pathway for our expanding mixed academy and girls’ scholarship programme.”
Mollie Coupar, a former St Neots player, scored a hat-trick for United last Sunday as they won 4-2 at Luton Town, with Becky Shephard grabbing the fourth.
Chloe Smith was on target for the development team as they lost 3-1 at Tottenham Hotspur reserves in the FA Women’s National League, Reserve South/South East Division.
