Cambridge University Boat Club seal Lightweight Boat Race double
Cambridge University Boat Club completed an Interactive Investor Lightweight Boat Race double last Sunday.
Starting a busy fortnight of high profile clashes between the Light Blues and Oxford, it was a day of success for those at Goldie Boathouse.
In the women’s race, the Light Blues got off to a fast start, and had already established an eight-second lead by the Mile Post.
They had increased the margin to 16 seconds by Hammersmith Bridge, and there was no let-up as the race developed.
Their advantage had grown to 28 seconds by Chiswick Steps, and then by 40 seconds at Barnes Bridge.
As Cambridge crossed the line, they had won by 15 lengths and 47.01sec to make it a hat-trick of wins in the last three years.
It was a closer affair in the men’s race, although it was still a dominant display by Cambridge.
They also got off to a flyer, reaching the Mile Post with a 12.37sec lead over Oxford.
The margin stayed around the same through the next three checkpoints of Hammersmith Bridge, Chiswick Steps and Barnes Bridge.
But the Light Blues went through the finish first by five lengths, in a time of 18min 1.19sec. Oxford clocked 18.16.38.
It meant that Cambridge ended a run of three successive defeats to their Dark Blue rivals.
