England Under-15 call-ups for Cambridgeshire trio Amelia Marriott, Bryony Brodie and Francesca Hamer

Three friends from Cambridgeshire have been selected as part of the England Under-15s Schoolgirls squad.

Amelia Marriott, Bryony Brodie and Francesca Hamer all came through a series of trial matches to make the cut.

They have spent the half-term break at a four-day England training camp in Fleetwood – near Blackpool – and will represent their country during April’s Bob Docherty Cup against the other home nations and the Republic of Ireland. That will be followed in mid-May by a clash against Wales.

Year 9 students Marriott and Brodie, who attend Littleport and East Cambs Academy and Ely College respectively, both play for Arsenal Under-14s and were formerly part of a successful Cambridge City Girls team.

The pair also featured alongside each other as members of an Ely Crusaders mixed side.

Year 10 pupil Hamer, meanwhile, hails from St Neots – where she goes to school – and she is on the books of Tottenham Hotspur Under-15s.

Sean Marriott, who is Amelia’s father, said: “The fact that these girls all play together but are also really good friends off the pitch makes the fact they’ve all been called up even more brilliant.

“They have come through a lot of trial matches to get to this point and all of us are very proud of them for what they’ve achieved.

“Millie and Bryony have played together for such a long time and we’re excited about what the future holds for them, and for Fran as well. All three of them are very good players and we can’t wait to see them play for England.

“We have to say a big thank you to Craig Hill Coaching for his sponsorship of Bryony and to Michael Ward at Proedge Associates in Ely for sponsoring Millie – their support is massive.”

A total of 18 players from across the country have made the squad.
