Early try fails to reap rewards in London 2NE

A bright start could not be turned into a victory by Cantabrigian as they were beaten 27-10 by Norwich in London League 2NE.

A torrential downpour had delayed kick-off, but Cantabs were not deterred as they opened the scoring after two minutes.

A kick ahead by winger Jim Bryant was chased by James Hayward, and he won the race to touch down to the right of the posts, and then converted his own try.

Norwich kicked a penalty to reduce the arrears, but Nick Denham landed three points for Cantabs to send them in 10-3 up at half time.

The visitors gained the ascendancy in the second half, doing all the attacking as Cantabs defended bravely.

But Norwich got a converted try to level matters, and they got three more scores to complete the win by the last quarter.
