Success for J16 eight in Nottingham

Cantabrigian Rowing Club’s J16 girls’ eight earned a bronze medal as part of the Eastern region team at the Junior Inter-Regional Regatta in Nottingham.

The eight of Mia Beauchamp, Sofia Cicolecchia, Rosie Oliver, Zara Parr, Jessie Hassett, Amy Hill, Rachel Strafold, Katie Oliver and cox Charlotte Parr won their heat to qualify for the final as third fastest.

And in the final, they held off a late surge to earn the bronze medal.

The boys’ J16 coxed four of Joshua Pearson, Samuel Askew, Tom Sharrock, Robert Almqvist and cox Catherine Pearson were third in their heat, but unfortunately missed out on the A final by one second.

In the B final, they finished second to a West Midlands crew and were eighth overall.

Coach Oli Frazer said: “It has been amazing to see the progress of all our junior first squad over the last couple of years and to see them reaping the rewards makes up for all their hard work in the wind and rain through the winter.

“Both crews really excelled themselves and for the girls to come away with a medal is great. We knew they were quick but you never quite know till the day.”

It was a great day and hopefully bodes well for the National Schools Regatta and British Junior Championships later this year.
