Five-point success takes Cantabs up the table

Cantabrigian had five different try scorers as they moved off the bottom of London League 2NE with a 29-14 win over Romford & Gidea Park.

It only took four minutes to break the deadlock as the returning James Hayward skipped past his opposing fly-half to touch down, and he converted his own try.

From a catch and drive at a line-out, captain Tom Bailey orchestrated the maul to finish off the second try.

Romford grabbed a converted score to make it 12-7, but there was breathing space for Cantabs when Finn Morrison sprinted in to score in the corner.

And the bonus point was secured when Jonny Heaver took a quick tap penalty to charge over from 5m out to make it 22-7 at half time.

There was no let-up from Cantabs as Jim Bryant spotted a gap to speed through and score, with Hayward adding the conversion. Romford managed a late consolation try.
