Duo net doubles against Moulton Ladies

Carla Penny and Bella Simmons notched doubles for Cambridge City Ladies as they earned an 8-2 victory over Moulton Ladies in the first qualifying round of the Women’s FA Cup.

City made a lively start at a high tempo that the visitors struggled to cope with, and took the lead through a Penny effort in the area.

Penny soon struck a second, but Moulton pulled a goal back with their first shot on target.

Simmons continued her good form by restoring City’s two-goal advantage, and an effort from Emily Reed stretched their lead to 4-1 at half time.

City maintained their dominance after the break, and Simmons, Stacey Fullicks, Hayley Turner and Megan Tonks all scored to complete the win, with Moulton hitting a consolation.

City will now host Kettering Town in the second qualifying round on September 17.

Cambridge United Women were also in cup action, making the long trip to Yate to face St Nicholas Ladies in the first round of the Women’s Premier League Cup, first round.

And they returned with a 5-0 win thanks to two goals from Teonie Peyton and one apiece from Lauren Gibson, Amy Howlett and Emma Jenkins.
