Cambridgeshire Cats produce the goods during BAFA National Leagues Premier Division South clash at London Blitz

Head coach Andy Whiteoak was delighted with the response that he got from his Cambridgeshire Cats players on Sunday.

Whiteoak had challenged the squad to prove that their season-opening BAFA National Leagues Premier Division South victory over London Blitz was ‘no fluke’ when they travelled to the capital for the reverse fixture at the weekend.

And they did so in style, racking up a 25-6 victory to extend their impressive start to the new campaign to three wins from four outings.

Whiteoak said: “I was very proud of how we performed.

“It was a challenging day. There was a double header on the pitch and while we’d usually start at 2pm, kick off was delayed until 4.45pm.

“It meant we had a much later finish than normal but the players took it all in their stride.

“We defended so well and shut down pretty much everything that they had to offer.

“Offensively we made some errors in the first half, but we tightened those up and really I can have no complaints.

“It was also great to see the strength in depth we have in the squad. When they were running out of players, we were able to maintain our level.”

The Cats will now break from action until 9 June when they travel to face London Warriors.

With the Warriors flying high at the top of the table, it promises to be the sternest test of the Cambridge side’s credentials so far this term.

Whiteoak added: “They’re one of the top teams in the country and we know it will be a real test.

“But we’ve got a 3-1 (winning) record this season and we’ve got some momentum and confidence because of that.

“We know how good they are but we’ve got to back our own ability as well. If we can push them and give them a scare, then we’re on the right track.”
