Charlie Lewis’ timing was perfect to get his first goal for Histon as it gave them a 2-1 win at Witham Town in the Pitching In Isthmian League, North Division.

The Stutes took the lead in the fifth minute. Ed Rolph latched on to a loose ball in the area, and smashed it into the roof of the net from close range.

After the early blow, Witham grew into the game but had to wait until the second half to draw level.

Greg Akpele grabbed the equaliser from close range in the 57th minute.

It seemed destined to finish all-square until Lewis’ intervention.

Deep in added time, Max York’s long throw into the box was perfect for Lewis to guide his header past Witham keeper Rhys Madden for his first goal for the club to give them victory.

But they were unable to repeat the exploits at Dereham Town on Tuesday night.

The hosts had Adam Hipperson shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Danny Gould after 33 minutes, but Histon were unable to make the extra man tell.

The Stutes are at home to Aveley this Saturday (October 10).
