Mother-of-two Charlie McLaughlin made a winning return for Shelford Women after a three-year hiatus as they beat Peterborough Lions 39-7 in Women’s NC1 Midlands.

The scrum-half and former captain came out of semi-retirement to bring valuable experience and tempo to the team.

Winger Emily Flack got a hat-trick to continue the rich vein of form from last season, debutants Katie Segrave and Elisha Clark touched down and Leanne Robinson and Danni Busby also crossed the try-line in the victory.

Shelford head coach Oakley Cox said: “It’s fantastic to have such a strength in depth within the squad, with senior players such as Charlie helping develop young women new to the club, and new to rugby.”
