Charlie Parkhouse grabbed two tries as Shelford clinched a 27-14 win over Westcombe Park in London & SE Premier.

Led from the front by old guard Aki Lea and Scott Jackowski, who are thriving in the new culture at Shelford, they were against the wind in the first half, but gained an 8-0 lead thanks to Parkhouse’s try and Josh Simmons’ penalty.

Parkhouse got his second score after the break, converted by Simmons, and Jamie Beswick then touched down after a flowing move involving backs and forwards.

Shelford conceded two tries as Westcombe Park cut the deficit to 20-14, but Teddy Hepworth grabbed the bonus-point winning fourth try, converted by Simmons, to seal the win.

“There were huge defensive efforts from the whole team but special mention to debutant Michael Dunnett, who worked tirelessly, tackling anything that moved; young Nathan Taylor, who is growing with confidence every week; and newby Harry Jones, whose work rate was incredible,” said Shelford head coach Mike Gillick.

“It was a good day at the office but we are very aware isolated wins will not define our season, we need to start backing them up.”
