Tom Dickens will spend next season on loan from Cambridge United at Chelmsford City.

The 19-year-old centre-back will link up with former U's striker Robbie Simpson, who is in charge at National League South side Chelmsford.

Dickens signed a first professional contract with United in January 2020 and spent time on loan at St Neots last season.

United head coach Mark Bonner said: “Tom will benefit hugely from the experience of joining Chelmsford City and from having the opportunity to get some game time under his belt.

“It is no secret how challenging last season was for all young professionals and we are hopeful that a successful and complete season in the non-league will offer Tom a fuller development experience.

“Robbie Simpson will be good for Tom and we are happy that he and Chelmsford City will support him well in this next stage of his development.”
