Cambridge City Hockey Club’s Emily McStea scores twice in England Hockey Women’s Conference Midlands win over Beeston
Cambridge City returned to winning ways in the England Hockey Women’s Conference Midlands with a 2-1 victory over Beeston on Saturday.
Former City goalkeeper Steph Tirrell thwarted the hosts on numerous occasions throughout the contest with a string of saves.
However, her resistance was crucially broken on two occasions by goals scored by Emily McStea.
Elsewhere, in the East Women’s League Premier Division, Cambridge City II thumped Norwich City 9-1.
Millie Ely spearheaded the charge by scoring a hat-trick, while Rachel Clarke, Lucy Pendleton and Emily Clapham all contributed braces.
In the East Women’s League Division 2 North West, Alice Beardmore scored with two minutes remaining to secure Cambridge City V a 2-1 win over Cambridge South II.
Xanthe Stebbing’s early goal had initially given City the lead before visiting South equalised during the second half.
Cambridge City VII have a plus 50 goal difference after seven games following their 6-1 win against Pelicans III in the East Women’s League Division 5 North West.
Four goals from Hattie Emmerson did much of the damage with further strikes coming from Catrina Smith and Karo Heiwolt.
Teddy Clifton (2), Sam Rutter, George Bucknall, Ben Dudgeon and Cammy Small all scored for Cambridge City II in their 6-2 win over Cambridge Hocky Club in the East Men’s League Division 1 North.
Meanwhile, in the East Men’s League Division 3 North West, Cambridge City III ran out 2-0 winners over Cambridge University III. Alex Filionescu and Ben Journeaux accounted for City’s goals.
In the same division, Karan Mann helped himself to a hat-trick in Cambridge City IV’s 4-1 victory at Spalding II.
In the East Men’s League Division 4 North West, Cambridge City V beat Newmarket II 3-2.
Streeteja Jonnada (2) and Doug McLeod were both on target for City.
