Cambridge City one point off Vitality Women’s Conference Midlands Division summit after beating Cannock
Cambridge City moved to within a point of the top of the Vitality Women’s Conference Midlands Division thanks to Saturday’s 3-1 home win over Cannock.
Emma Shinkin opened the scoring with her first goal for the club, having joined nine years ago.
Millie Ely then converted a pinpoint cross from Ciara Comley to double City’s advantage before Jess Tuff put away a penalty corner to complete the hosts’ scoring.
The game also marked a National League debut for Boo Plant, who also made her first East League appearance this term.
Elsewhere, Cambridge City II are up to second in the East Women’s League Premier Division after their come-from-behind 2-1 win at home to Bishop’s Stortford.
Fenella Clarke equalised for City late in the first half, with Emily Clapham squeezing in the winning goal from close range after the restart.
Mid-table Cambridge City V caused an upset in the East Women’s League Division 2 North West by winning 3-0 at third-placed Cambridge South II.
Sarah Lambert continued her good recent form with the game’s opening goal, which was followed by strikes from Kate Newhouse and Laurel Tully.
