Cambridge City Hockey Club chalk up six victories from latest round of East League fixtures
Despite both of their first teams suffering National League defeats, there was still six victories for Cambridge City Hockey Club to celebrate at the weekend.
In the East Women’s League Premier Division, Cambridge City II are up to second following their 3-1 home victory at the expense of City of Peterborough.
All three of City’s goals – scored by Emily Clapham, Sadie Werrett and Lilia Payne – came during the first half.
The visitors pulled a goal back in the second half but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation.
Elsewhere, in the East Women’s League Division 2 North West, third-placed Cambridge City V won 2-1 against City of Peterborough III.
Madi Yeomans’ opening goal for City was cancelled out by a Peterborough equaliser, but Sam Surridge responded with a decisive goal to give City all three points.
In the East Men’s League Division 1 North, Cambridge City II ran out 4-0 winners against St Ives.
Ben Dudgeon scored from two corners, which was followed up by captain Ally MacDonald and Teddie Clifton.
Nish Afsar and Laurie Humphrey both scored braces to help Cambridge City III chalk up a 6-0 victory over City of Peterborough IV in the East Men’s League Division 3 North West.
Adam Stephens and Cammy Small were also on target for City, who top the table with a 100 per cent winning record this term.
In the same division, Cambridge City IV were also big victors as they thrashed Cambridge South IV 7-1.
Barnaby Warr (2), Karan Mann, Muhammad Ali, Nathan Taylor, Henry Hodges and Phil Robinson all got their names on the scoresheet.
In the East Men’s League Division 4 North West, Cambridge City V hammered Kettering III 8-2.
Two goals in three minutes from Simon Webb set the tone before Ben Willington scored a hat-trick and Doug McLeod weighed in with a brace.
The scoring was completed by centre-half Charlie Hill.
