Cambridge City Hockey Club’s Ethan Smythe, Holly Hartley and Evie Younger called up to represent England Under-16s
Three current Cambridge City Hockey Club players have earned England call-ups.
Ethan Smythe has caught the eye of the selectors of the England Under-16 boys’ squad, while Holly Hartley and Evie Younger are both part of the girls’ same age group.
Meanwhile, former City duo Katie Curtis and Maddie Axford will both represent England at the upcoming Junior World Cup, Amie Hunt has made the cut for the Under-18 Girls and Tom Spreckley has been included as part of the Great Britain Elite Development Programme.
The club’s youth section chair Stuart Rye said: “I’m delighted that three current Cambridge City Hockey Club youth players have made it into the England Hockey National Under-16 squads for this year, with Holly Hartley joining Evie Younger in the girls’ squad and Ethan Smythe joining the boys’ squad.
“We wish them the very best of luck as they aim for places in the upcoming international fixtures early next year.
“Cambridge City has been on a quite a journey over the last couple of years as we’ve grown our youth section to more than 500 youngsters from age five upwards.
“We look forward to helping all of them on their own hockey journey - whether their ambition is to follow in the footsteps of CCHC alumni such as Tess Howard, James Albery and Kate Axford into national teams or just have fun playing with their team-mates on Sunday.”
In further positive news for the club’s junior section, the Under-16 and Under-18 girls’ teams both won their respective East Indoor Finals titles at the weekend to progress through to the National Finals, which will take place in January.
