Shelford Rugby Club appoint former Cambridge Rugby Club player Rob Conquest as new first-team captain

Rob Conquest has been named as the new captain of Shelford Rugby Club’s men’s first team.

The experienced second rower has taken over the role from Charlie Baker, who was appointed joint head coach alongside Miles Anderson in March.

Conquest, who is a former Cambridge Rugby Club player, said: “I am deeply honoured to be named captain of this talented team of young men.

“With the departure of Charlie to his new head coaching role alongside Miles, I know I have big shoes to fill, but I’m excited for the challenge.

“I look forward to seeing what Shelford Rugby Club can achieve both on and off the field, from our mini and youth programs to our strong women’s section.

“As a squad, we’re eager to showcase all the hard work we’ve put in over the off-season.”

The vice-captaincy has gone to Lewis Cracknell, while Alex Long will skipper the men’s Nomads with support being provided by Isa Sloot.

Shelford will get their 2024/25 Regional 1 South East campaign started on Saturday, 7 September when they travel to face Letchworth, which is followed seven days later by a home encounter against visiting Hertford at The Davey Field.
