Cambridge United confirm interim boss Barry Corr will remain in charge for games against Stevenage and Bolton Wanderers

Cambridge United have confirmed that Barry Corr will remain in interim charge of the first team for at least the next two games.

The U’s were rocked last week by the unexpected departure of head coach Neil Harris, who after just 77 days into his tenure opted to return to his former club Millwall.

Assistant Corr – along with fellow coach Kevin Betsy – took on the responsibility for Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Peterborough United, and the pair will remain at the helm for tomorrow night’s trip to Stevenage and the weekend’s long journey to face Bolton Wanderers.

Chair of the board Shaun Grady said in a statement: “Since the unexpected departure of Neil Harris last week there have been a number of conversations between owners, board and the senior leadership of the club.

“Everyone is committed to making the right appointment and we are balancing working at pace with a thorough consideration of the different options at this stage of the season.

“Ben Strang (sporting director) has already had some preliminary conversations with potential candidates and we will keep fans fully updated as and when a decision is made.

"In the meantime, Barry Corr will lead the team for the next two games and we are all very grateful for the positive and professional way that Barry, Kevin, all the coaching staff and players have responded over recent days.”

Corr said last Thursday that he had no intention of applying for the job on a permanent basis.
