Cambridge United midfielder Jordan Cousins backed to become fans’ favourite by assistant head coach Barry Corr
Assistant head coach Barry Corr has backed summer signing Jordan Cousins to become a firm favourite of the Cambridge United fanbase.
The former Queens Park Rangers and Stoke City midfielder joined the U’s a fortnight ago and he made his first appearance of the summer during this afternoon’s 4-0 behind-closed-doors friendly victory over Gillingham at the Abbey Stadium.
It was an eye-catching display from the 29-year-old, capped by a goal in the 35th minute to put United 3-0 ahead before half-time.
And while Cousins came off at the break as the club continues to monitor his fitness levels closely, Corr was impressed with what he saw from the new recruit, who he is tipping to make a big impact over the coming months.
“I’d kind of seen bits of him but when you see him up close, he’s a really powerful and athletic player. He’s good with the ball and within 20 minutes of watching him training I could see he was a proper player,” said Corr.
“We’re delighted to have him at the club. We have to be quite thoughtful with him and be conscious of the minutes we give him at the minute because we need to build him up properly. We want to have him for the whole season but I think he’ll have a great influence on us and be a big player.
“He can handle the ball, no question. He can get up and down the pitch and is very good defensively. He’s very much a front foot midfielder and he’s constantly looking to see if he can make interceptions and tackles.
“I think the fans will really enjoy watching him play. He’s a really committed player and he’ll become a fans’ favourite very quickly.”
