Stutes stay flying high at the top of the table

Dan Brown and Max York were on target twice each as Histon maintained the leadership of the Thurlow Nunn League, Premier Division with a 4-0 win at Hadleigh United.

They took the lead in the eighth minute as Evan Key’s ball out of defence was chested down by Danny Gould, and into the path of the on-running Brown, who slid his effort past the keeper.

Histon doubled their advantage in the 24th minute.

Some intricate play between Brown, Andreu Ballester and York saw the captain skilfully navigate his way into the area, and then get his first of the match with a fine shot across the keeper.

Brown got his second on the half-hour as Rob Ruddy’s deep cross was taken on the chest by York, who then calmly sent a low ball back across the six-yard box for Brown to side-foot home.

Histon completed their scoring from the spot in the second half.

York was fouled in the area in the 67th minute, and he picked himself up to tuck the penalty in off the post.

It means Histon have a three-point lead over Wroxham in the table, with two games in hand.

Histon earned a 3-0 win over Newmarket Town in the Cambridgeshire Invitation Cup.

The Stutes are at home to FC Clacton this Saturday (November 17).
