Olly Brookes and Dan Brown were on target for Histon as they picked up their first win of the new season with a 2-1 success at Rothwell Corinthians in the Uhlsport United Counties League, Premier Division South.

After losing 2-1 at home to Coventry Sphinx in the opening game last Saturday, Lance Key's side bounced back on Tuesday night.

It was a goalless first half at Rothwell, but Histon went ahead when substitute Luke Lindsey hooked a corner back into the box and Brookes headed home.

Histon made it 2-0 when Rhys Thorpe broke away before putting a pass wide for Lindsey, who played a first-time ball across the box for Brown to finish.

Rothwell pulled a goal back after a mix-up in defence, but Histon held on for victory.

Histon had started life after last season's relegation with 2-1 defeat at home to Coventry Sphinx last Saturday.

Brown opened the scoring on his return to the club with his 50th goal for the Stutes, in first-half added time.

But Callum Stewart equalised for the visitors from the penalty spot in the 56th minute.

Coventry Sphinx, who had an outfield player in goal for 70 minutes after an injury to keeper Tom Cross, got their winner in the 67th minute through a free kick from Callum Woodward.

Histon are away to Desborough Town in the FA Cup, extra preliminary round this Saturday (August 6).
