Stutes start campaign by beating Haverhill Rovers and Long Melford

Histon have made a flying start to their Thurlow Nunn League, Premier Division campaign.

In their opening game, they beat Haverhill Rovers 4-0.

The match was only four minutes old when Ed Rolph headed in a corner to give the Stutes a 1-0 lead.

Five minutes later, Danny Gould finished off a pull back at the edge of the six-yard box.

Lewis McDonald added a third just before the break, after Evan Key had helped on Gould’s cut-back from the left.

Gould completed the scoring with his second of the game after 75 minutes, seizing on Simon Swinton’s through ball to round an advancing keeper to side-foot home.

On Tuesday night, they played host to Long Melford and recovered from a goal down to win 2-1.

Joe Sutton scored with 20 minutes remaining to level after the visitors had taken the lead in the first half.

Four minutes after the equaliser, Simon Swinton hit Histon’s winner from outside the area.

Histon are at home to Peterborough Northern Star in the FA Cup this Saturday (August 11).
