Histon welcomed Danny Gould back into the fold in their 1-1 draw with Daventry in the Northern Premier League, Midlands Division.

The versatile left-sided player had been with the Stutes since the age of 17, and made 185 appearances, scoring 21 goals.

But when Histon were switched from the Isthmian League to the Northern League, Essex-based Gould made the decision to leave, and went to Grays Athletic in the summer.

However, he has now returned to Bridge Road.

“I wasn’t really thinking about it until the seven-day approach came in and I started talking to Keysey,” said Gould. “If it was any other team I would have stayed at Grays, but because it was Histon I had to come back. In the end it was a simple decision.”

Histon manager Lance Key said: “From a coaching point of view, he gives us more options with his pace, experience and versatility and he’s great for the dressing room too.

“Everyone at the club will be as delighted as we are to welcome him back.”

Gould started for Histon at Daventry Town last Saturday, but the action happened in the last 10 minutes.

Tom Lorraine put the hosts ahead from the spot in the 78th minute, but Andy Ballester equalised for Histon a minute later.

Histon are at home to Belper Town this Saturday (December 18).
