Cambridge City manager Jamie Cureton welcomes competition provided by new signing Correy Davidson
Manager Jamie Cureton is excited by the ‘quality’ that new signing Correy Davidson will add to his Cambridge City side’s attacking options.
The 31-year-old wide player completed his switch to the Lilywhites late last week as the leading scorer in Essex Senior League Premier Division, having notched a combined 16 goals for Stansted and more recently Saffron Walden.
And City supporters caught a first glimpse of the latest recruit as a second-half substitute in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Haringey Borough.
“We wanted another attacking option,” said boss Cureton. “I’ve known Correy for a while and he’s a top player.
“He’s played at a higher level and obviously he’s been doing really at Walden. He’s the top goalscorer in the league and for a winger, that shows his quality.
“He gives us another option in the frontline. We had three and now I’ve got another one that will give us goals, assists and quality at the top end of the pitch.
“It’s nice to see Corey come in and he’ll add so much to us.”
With a number of players now back from injury, competition for places within Cureton’s squad is fierce.
He added: “There’s some real competition now in our 16 and it’s about us trying to keep everyone fit.
“At the moment we’re winning games so you don’t want to make too many changes to your squad, but sometimes adding when you’re on top is important because it keeps competition (for places) lively.
“That’s exactly what we’ve done by bringing Correy into the group.”
Davidson’s list of former clubs includes the likes of AFC Sudbury, Heybridge Swifts, Brentwood Town, Braintree Town, Grays Athletic and Sittingbourne.
