Debutant tries help Cantabrigian to win over Campion

By CambridgeIndependent Reporter

Bonus point win on the road

Ollie Townsend and Jamie Faed marked their Cantabrigian debuts with tries as they earned a 22-7 win at bottom club Campion in London League 2NE.

After five minutes, James Hayward found the right-hand corner with a penalty and from the resulting catch and drive, Dave Evershed touched down for Cantabs.

Seventeen minutes later, Hayward made a break and play was moved across the pitch for Faed to score in the corner to make it 10-0.

Cantabs increased their lead to 15-0 at half time as a long pass from Hayward to Faed on the left saw Townsend then brought into action to touch down.

Campion, who are yet to pick up a point this season, ended the period in a positive spirit and started to grow in confidence, being held up twice over the line.

From a tap penalty, Hayward exchanged passes with Drew Tilley and ghosted around two defenders to score in front of the posts to earn the bonus point, and the fly-half also landed the conversion.

Campion managed to score a converted try, but their No 8 was sin-binned after a fracas as Cantabs saw out a 22-7 win.
