Cambridge United midfielder Paul Digby calls for fighting spirit ahead of Sky Bet League One clash at MK Dons
Paul Digby had a simple message for his Cambridge United team-mates when asked how they have to approach the final 11 games of the season: “Keep fighting.”
A run of just three victories from their last 25 Sky Bet League One outings has left the U’s in a major battle to preserve their third tier status.
They head to fellow strugglers MK Dons on Saturday four points adrift of safety, and as a result it is a fixture that they can ill afford to lose.
And Digby, who continues to captain the team in the absence of Greg Taylor, has urged each player to retain their levels of belief.
He said: “Keep fighting. I know it’s simple but sometimes when you’re stuck in a bit of rut it’s easy to go the other way but I feel like the fight is still here in this team.
“We see it day in and day out – the fight and the hunger to win games, it’s still there. As long as we’ve got that we’ve always got a chance.
“We need to be a bit calmer at times in games, maybe in the final third some (more) good decision making. That’s so important and it’s something that we’re looking at in training as well.
“We’ve got to keep believing in each other and I’m sure we can get results.
“It’s the nature of football. You’re going to get kicked in the stomach sometimes and it might feel like that a bit but you’ve got to get back out there straight away and keep fighting.
“It’s so important and we’ve got that massively in the staff here and massively in the team.”
