Eastern Counties signed off their Gill Burns Women’s County Championship season on a high in their latest county championship matches.

Shelford’s Jodie Turl and Cambridge University’s Sam Chan featured in the team that clinched a 68-10 victory over Oxfordshire.

They made a strong start and Libby Lockwood, Robyn Gordon (2) and Annalise Allan touched down before Turl completed the half with the fifth try. Gordon landed two conversions.

After the break, Lockwood went on to finish with a personal tally of four tries, while Gordon completed a hat-trick, Lucy Kerr got two and Allan grabbed a second of the game.

Eastern Counties finished their campaign third in Pool 2, having suffered defeats to Hertfordshire and Notts, Lincs and Derby.

In the Bill Beaumont Senior Men’s County Championship, there was disappointment for Eastern Counties.

The men’s team, who were playing at Cambridge’s Volac Park, suffered a 57-7 defeat to Lancashire.

It leaves them fifth in Division One North, with a clash against Northumberland this Saturday at Bury St Edmunds.

Eastern Counties Wanderers beat Lancashire Royals 41-5.
