Captain Ed Rolph took to social media to apologise to Histon fans after their 5-1 home defeat to Wisbech Town in the Northern Premier League, Midlands Divison last Saturday.

It was a crunch match at the bottom of the table, with the Stutes eager to build on their six-point advantage over the basement side going into the game and seal their spot in the relegation play-off place.

But it was a first-half to forget as Sam Bennett hit a hat-trick and Danny Draper and Sam Murphy scored to give Wisbech a 5-0 lead at the break.

Rolph pulled a goal back for Histon in the 51st minute, but the game was already gone.

On Twitter, Rolph said: “We can only apologise for that performance yesterday, no where near good enough and we will fight to put it right next week, keep believing.”

Histon are away to Sutton Coldfield Town this Saturday (April 16).

Cambridge City were pegged back to be held 1-1 at Yaxley.

Taylor Parr bundled in Ben Bradley’s corner to give them the lead in the ninth minute, but Tom Waumsley equalised for Yaxley after 36 minutes.

City are at home to sixth-placed Carlton Town this Saturday.
