Stutes maintain first place

Histon remain top of the Thurlow Nunn League, Premier Division table after a 1-1 draw at nearest rivals Stowmarket Town.

They went into the game with a two-point advantage over the Suffolk side, and two games in hand.

The Stutes went ahead on the half-hour. A long ball forward led to a defensive mistake and Ed Rolph seized on the error, taking a touch before slotting the ball past the keeper.

Lee Smith scored a late penalty for Histon on Tuesday night as they beat Wisbech St Mary 1-0 in the first round of the Cambridgeshire Invitation Cup.

Histon are away to Spartan South Midlands League, Premier Division side Colney Heath in the first round of the FA Vase this Saturday (October 13).
